Traditional Glazed Rice Bowl

Traditional Glazed Rice Bowl

Each ceramic bowl is handmade from Arita-cho, Japan resulting in the subtle differences in colour, design, and shape. With time, the bowls may develop a unique change in colour due to the high water absorbency of clay, making each plate personal to its owner.

The dark grown glaze of this ceramic bowl results from adding a small amount of iron into a transparent glaze during the firing. The name of this glaze is ‘Ame’ (飴), meaning candy in Japanese, as its bright and glossy colour is reminiscent of traditional Japanese candy.
