The Bon Tray series is crafted in a workshop in Ishikawa prefecture which specialises in lacquerware. These lacquered wooden trays are handmade by Kiji-shi, craftsmen who are dedicated to the traditional craft of woodturning. They are involved in each process of a single production of urushi lacquerware - from the careful selection of wood to the final surface finish. These trays feature an urushi (Japanese lacquer) coating, a type of sap extracted from urushi trees which draws out the natural beauty and durability of wood. This food-safe coating protects the tray against grease and stains while developing a rich lustre over time with more use. 

These trays are inspired by the Oshiki “折敷” (lacquered wooden trays), a type of footed tray with borders which are typically reserved for celebratory meals and kaiseki ryori (traditional multi-course Japanese dinners). While traditionally rectangular in shape, these contemporary designs are infused with shapes used in edge ornamentation. These trays can be used as place mats and serving trays, with a versatility that can stylishly combine a wide host of dishes.

Rinka is a traditional design used in tableware that features a flower-shaped body.

Please note as wood is a natural material, each handmade product varies in colour, grain and texture.

Instructions for Care:
Hand wash only with a soft sponge.
Do not soak in water for long periods of time.
Wipe thoroughly with a soft cloth and store in a cool, dry place.

Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures such as direct sunlight as it may cause deformation.
