Ceramic Flower Octagonal Plates

Ceramic Flower Octagonal Plates

The Awaji Ceramic Flower series originate from Awaji Island in the eastern part of the Seto Inland Sea. It is crafted in the style of Awaji-yaki (also known as Minpei-yaki), a type of pottery which flourished between the late Edo and Meiji period. Traditionally, Awaji-yaki is characterised by a translucent ceramic body made from locally sourced clay and finely cracked glazes of grassy green, pale yellow and turquoise hues. Embodying this pottery tradition, the unadorned Awaji Ceramic Flower series can be appreciated for their earthy touch and iridescent ceramic surface which evoke the island’s scenic beauty.
