Traditional Glazed Rice Bowl (Celadon)

Traditional Glazed Rice Bowl (Celadon)

Each ceramic bowl is handmade from Arita-cho, Japan resulting in the subtle differences in colour, design, and shape. With time, the bowls may develop a unique change in colour due to the high water absorbency of clay, making each plate personal to its owner.

The celadon glaze is achieved through reduction firing. A small amount of iron is added to the glaze during the firing, which develops the blue-green colour. Celadon glaze is very traditional and has been used for more than 1000 years, tracing back to the 10th century.
